Kunstverein Wolfsburg e.V. was founded in 1959. It is the oldest art institution in the city but also the most avant-garde. Its ambitious programme, which has achieved national and international renown, supports the younger generation of artists whose works offer relevant answers to the questions of the day. Every year, a cohesive annual programme is developed with exhibits and projects which are complemented by talks, discussions, film nights and concerts. The institution sees itself as a platform for current artistic trends which also speaks to young art enthusiasts. Admission is free.
The city of Wolfsburg, with its special history and role in the labour politics and economic situation of Germany, has been used as a theme in many exhibits and projects. The arti, an art prize for Wolfsburger artists, is announced every two years. The Wolfsburg Art Association is the organiser of the “Phaenomenale” annual Science and Art Festival, together with phaeno and the Wolfsburg City Culture Bureau.
