Young city and modern art- a rejuvenation of contemporary art.
If you find yourself in Wolfsburg and are interested in modern, contemporary art, you should definitely make a trip to the Kunstmuseum Wolfsburg. The magnificent building, opened in 1994, with its imposing glass facade, is home to a multi-layered collection of contemporary art – from the early modern to more junior exhibits. More than a hundred exhibits have enchanted visitors over the course of the years – large and historically themed events as well as mid-career retrospectives or thrilling solo exhibits. The museum conceptually picks up the four central aspects of the young, modern industrial city of Wolfsburg: Modernity, urbanity, internationality and quality. It is seen as a lively, dynamic centre and should, as a cultural and social institution, be an educational and visually informative commission. Its central location in the middle of the city, neighbouring the Alvar-Aalto-Kulturhaus, brings art up close. Current exhibition info is available online.
